摘要
Environmental Information System (EIS) is a system which is based on mordern computer and communication technology services for environmental management,implementing the collection, transmission, storage, processing, maintenance and exploitage of environmental information. This paper summarizes the concept and basic functions of Geographic Information System for Environment, enumerating the application of Geographic Information System for Environment in environmental management. It explains the,research areas and direction of Geographic Information System for Environment at home and abroad, and proposes the strategies and proposals of development in Geographic Information System for Environment. At the same time, the ontology of informatics and the new recent developments of semantic web research will be introduced into environment information science. It will propose and design a environmental information system which is based on ontology.
