摘要：

Of all Philip Roth's novels, Counterlife is perhaps his most pivotal one. The significance of the novel lies not solely in its postmodern experimental structure but also the new theme about contemporary Jewish. people to look for their promised land. It' s a fundamental problem for them. Based on a textual analysis, the thesis attempts to revel the writer's change on his career by making a comparison between the writing skill and subject of this novel and those in Roth's early novels.
