High purity nanometer wolllastonite was prepared by sol-gel method using tetraethyl silicate and calcium chloride as the raw materials. The preparing conditions of the precursor were determined. The nanometer wolllastonite was characterised by IR, XRD and SEM. The results show that the preparing conditions of the precursor was R >= 4, pH = 1 similar to 3, t <= 60 degrees C. The precursor was sintered to form high-temperature type wolllastonite nanometer powder composed of 70 similar to 100 nm squarish appearance particles and its combining particles at 900 degrees C for 1 h. That nanometer wolllastonite prepared by sol-gel method has characteristic of lower sintering temperature, falling more than 400 degrees C compared with sintering temperature of usual high temperature solid-state sintering method, shorter sintering time, high purity and whiteness of product.
