A study of semi-active suspension with tuned mass damper

摘要
In-wheel motor brings both pros and cons to electric vehicles (EVs). Thereto, the adverse effects of the weighted wheel, as the main con, is notable. Weighted wheel will cause worse ride and road-holding qualities. Semi-active suspension can suppress vehicle vibration effectively, but the existence of the invariant point around second order nature frequency of the quarter vehicle suspension largely hinder the effect of the up-to-date semi-active suspension control methods to successfully overcome the adverse effect with the in-wheel motor driven EVs. This study introduces tuned mass damper (TMD) to semi-active suspension to reduce the effect of invariant point. Different forms of semi-active suspension and TMD are studied in this paper. Suspension adopt sky-hook control strategy combined with passive TMD (PTMD) was proved to overcome the adverse effect of the weighted wheel effectively.
