The computer services sector is a fast growing and highly strategic area of the UK economy. This paper first portrays the uneven development of UK computer services as shown by employment trends, and then presents a comparison of new survey evidence from the industry in Hertfordshire and Tyne & Wear to highlight some of the major factors behind the continuing dominance of the South East in this sector.
