Central Nacional Provivienda (Cenaprov), founded in 1957, is an organisation that has promoted the construction of neighbourhoods in different Colombian cities through planned land seizures. The purpose of this article is to understand the political meaning in the construction of open and community spaces in the neighbourhoods built by Cenaprov, based on the first successful takeover experience in Policarpa Salavarrieta, Bogota, its flagship neighbourhood. This experience allows us to reassess the relevance of "informality" referring to the wide spectrum of self-built forms and progressively growing neighbourhoods.
