摘要
This article analyzes the omission of the object in Russian absolutive construction with a transitive verb. Unlike the contextual, situational ellipsis, the phenomenon is not motivated by informative redundancy and is considered semantically and structurally complete. The article presents an attempt to identify mechanisms of the omission of the object of action, proceeding from the position in which the omission of any component signals its low salience on the informative and semantic levels. In the case of the low informative salience of an object, the object does not have a specific referent, and information about it moves into the background sphere. This happens when the object cannot be mentioned due to its uncertainty (unlimited multiplicity of actions) or unimportance (the focus is not on the object of action). Low semantic salience of the object argument is characteristic of verb that through its semantics limits the possible range of objects. These are verbs with typical collocations. Moreover, in cases where an object gains great semantic salience, the object cannot be omitted. An example of this would be verbs that contain the result state of an object. In parallel, the article discusses the semantic transformation of the verb caused by the omission of its object.
