Ground beetle families (Coleoptera, Carabidae) in the Arctic fauna. Report 2

The Arctic fauna of ground beetles includes 25-27 genera belonging to two tens of tribes. The majority of tribes is represented by 1-2 genera. Some genera and large taxa of the higher rank comprising a significant part of the Holarctic fauna are absent. There are no direct relationships between the number of carabid taxa and their volume in the Arctic fauna. The similar situation is observed in other groups of insects. Small genera represents a significant share among ground beetles. Mountain Siberian, tundra-steppe, and intrazonal hygrophilous complexes are characterized. The carabid family does not contain hyperarcts; 2-3 euarcts, about 15 hemiarcts and 20 hypoarcts may be conventionally distinguished within the family. A general trend of increasing the number of taxa in the family philogenetic system (the lower part) and that of groups and species with definite primitive and polymorphic features is noted.
