San Baudelio de Berlanga, a hundred years later.: Historiographycal balance and new approaches

In 1907 Manuel Anibal Alvarez and Jose Ramon Melida published the first significant study on the Sorian hermitage of San Baudelio. Since then, few specialists have evaded the attraction exerted by the particular architecture of the church or the surprising iconography of its mural paintings, opening a debate in which questions such us chronology, spatial functionality or meaning of the images have given rise to many diverse interpretations. For that reason, after a hundred years, it seems to us the right moment to carry out a critical revision as well as to formulate some hypotheses in which architecture and paintings are examined under a common prism.
