摘要：

The Introduction to the Italian edition of the fundamental volume of PevsnerAcademies ofArt, Past and Present (1940) is now presented unchanged and deliberately not up-to-date as evidence of the debt that his author, at that time professor of History of Art at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, has contracted with the illuminating methodological indications provided by Enrico Castelnuovo in Per una stories sociale dell'arte- I and II (1976,1977).
