摘要
A data centric overview of the emergent computing applications and needs for future data management applications along with a brief review of existence of the relational systems in dominating the data management field and the evolution of the relational technologies are discussed. The database applications described are almost all read-dominated and streaming applications that just as SQL query language, don't even take the advantage of persistent data. Designers for developing advance applications with mobile and personalized services are needing some powerful hidden from the sight computing and network elements to support the infrastructure that makes ubiquitous computing possible. Few of these applications require transactional grantees, and there is little relational about the data being accessed. Modularity and configurability are two fundamental properties that a solution must possess to address the wide range of needs for emerging data management applications.
