Services sector

The issues that need to be taken for protecting workers in the service sector from risks that include workplace violence, over-exertion, shift work, and psycho-social stressors, are discussed. The sector needs to follow standardized processes for introducing Prevention through Design (PtD) in the services. The increasing public awareness about sanitation can improve the health and safety of workplace. The sector needs to introduce standardized practices, such as American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standards for garbage truck step sizes, the application of purchasing specifications for chemical and building materials, for enhancing safety at workplace. It can implement PtD policy initiatives that involve efforts to establish the most basic of human rights. PtD policy also focuses on payment systems and their impact on worker safety.
