摘要：

Based on panel data at HS6-digit level in agriculture during 1996-2011 between China and Japan from UN Comtrade, this study explores the determinants of the bilateral intra-industry trade by modifying the Grubel-Lloyd intra-industry trade (IIT) index. Results reveal that average GDP and difference in per capita GDP have significant effects on IIT values and INT (inter-industry trade) values but not on IIT shares. However, import tariff rates significantly influence the IIT shares as well as IIT values. This implies that with the integration of East Asia, the IIT share in agriculture might be increased.
