The quarrel between Camus and Sartre remains pertinent today Marxism may be dead but the ideas of these authors remain valuable They often argued at cross purposes but also said similar thins Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus warns people not to believe that their lives will be rewarded, life's struggles remain unceasing in Being and Nothingness Sartre concludes that life is useless passion Camus 'The Rebel warns us against deifying history and being blinded by ideology, Sartre s Critique of Dialectical Reason concludes that Stalinism has deviated form its path can no longer be corrected Their views of history and the working class diverge Camus rejected communism's claim that it would deliver a "glorious future' and he refused to accept many things' to bring about the working class s triumph Camus's The fall and Sartre's The condemned of Altona illustrate their preoccupation with mankind s dismal state
