摘要
The paper describes a study on how university students view the teacher role and how these views are reflected in metaphors about the teacher role and teaching. The metaphors were compared with the dimensions of the teacher identity model by Beijaard, Verloop and Vermunt (2000). We also analysed the affective connotations attached to the metaphors. The sample consisted of 68 students who were enrolled in programmes for elementary education, mathematics teachers and mathematics. The metaphors, mostly positive in nature, were strongly related to the field of study. The Beijaard et al. model can provide a theoretical framework for analysing metaphors, and it may be a useful tool for teacher educators to use with teacher education students in the exploration of beliefs through metaphors.
