摘要
E. coli bacteria are an essential part of the intestinal flora of humans and animals. Besides ''normal'' E. coli bacteria there are some variants which are pathogenic; they are called E. coli pathovars. Nine pathovars known so far are listed and characterized from the epidemiological point of view.
