Over the last two decades, foreign direct investments (FDI) have played a significant role in economic development and economic transformation of the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe. The same applies for the Slovak Republic which recorded a relatively high level of FDI inflows into the various sectors of the economy since its establishment. It also possible to identify several factors that positively affected this trend. The present paper focuses on one particular aspect of attracting FDI - and that is direct state aid in the form of investment incentives. The work analyzes the investment aid scheme in the Slovak Republic, its objectives, legal framework, forms and conditions and also presents trends in relation to investment aid granting in the years 2002-2015.
