The introduction of abalone in Chile: Ten years later

A general description of the introduction of red abalone, Haliotis rufescens (Swainson, 1822) into Chile, was presented in 1989 at the First Abalone Symposium. Economic, social, and environmental factors have stimulated the development of the culture of species with a high commercial value, like the red abalone. In this article, we analyze its present situation and discuss future perspectives of the development of its culture.
