Regional and urban planning and air quality

Protection of climate turned into a topic of great political interest at the latest since 1992, when in Rio the Conference on Environment took place and the Framework Climate Convention was passed. In consequence, also the European Union and its member states made every effort to support climate protection policies. The Federal Republic of Germany claims in its "National Action Plan for Sustainable Settlement Development" that urban environmental policies have to be worked on with vigor in order to achieve the aim of sustainable development of communities and regions taking measures to reduce emission values, to reduce traffic, to reduce the air load in general and taking measures by planning and decrees.
