Magnetic properties of CoMnSiB amorphous glass-covered wires

Results on the magnetic behavior and properties of the small positive magnetostrictive Co67Mn9Si9B15 glass-covered wires and on their changes determined by geometrical dimensions, glass removal. and applied tensile stresses are reported. The experimental data explain their specific behavior resulting from the changes produced in the domain structure by the Mn addition to the CoSiB negative magnetostrictive alloy and the other mentioned factors. The Mn addition lead to an improvement in the thermal stability of the wires, the appearance of a large Barkhausen effect and also to a decrease of the coercive force and switching field, the wires behaving like typical positive magnetostrictive ones.
