RESPONSES OF CORN (ZEA MAYS L.)TO COMPOUND TYPE OF SALINITY

Studies on the effects of compound type of salinity (NaCl, Na(2)SO(4), CaCl(2), MgCl(2)) were carried out in sand culture media on two cultivars i.e. EV5085 and, Gawhar of corn. Salinity retards the water uptake by seeds. The germination was directly proportional to the water uptake by the seeds. Salinity also slow down the rate of seeding growth. EV 5085 was found to be relatively salt tolerant than Gawhar.
