Fan-like structure in rapidly-quenched Al-Sc alloys

摘要
A study of the structure of the Al-(1-2)%wt. Sc binary allows quenched from a liquid state from the temperatures 1000degreesC and 1400degreesC is carried out. After quenching from a temperature below 1000degreesC, a vortex-type structure is revealed and related to the fan-like structure. It is consisting of precipitations of the surplus Al3Sc-type phase. As shown, the fan-like structure has a crystallization origin, and it is described as a fractal structure. The measurement of kinematic viscosity of a melt allows elucidating a structural transformation in a liquid.
