Color image sharpening in an efficient color space

A color space for sharpening RGB image efficiently is presented in this paper. We compared the sharpening in a linear color space and the sharpening in CIEL*a*b* color space and found sharpening effects in both color spaces are almost the same, however, the computation of sharpening in the linear color space is very small. In order to sharpen chromaticity efficiently, a simplified algorithm is used to sharpen chroma. Sharpening chroma with the application of the simplified model comes out almost the same result as that with traditional chroma sharpening but the computation is smaller. The characteristics of the human vision frequency response are implemented for the design of sharpening filters.
