摘要
One of important performance issues in Java systems is its garbage collection based memory management since all objects are dynamically allocated from a heap, where the allocated objects are only released through garbage collection. However, it is difficult to measure garbage collection performance accurately and fairly with various Java Virtual Machines (JVMs). This paper describes a Java's garbage collection benchmark, which is named Java Garbage Collection Workload (JGCW). JGCW attempts to model dynamic object properties of real applications. It tries to measure the workload specially arranged for garbage collection. JGCW can help us to evaluate the garbage collection performance and identify where the garbage collection performance hotspots are located using a tool like Vtune, which is the Intel's performance profiling tool for IA32 and IA64 architecture.
