摘要
The recent advances in power electronics have led to the development of the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). FACTS devices require fully rated capacitor and reactor banks in order to supply/absorb reactive power. These requirements can be escaped by employing solid state synchronous voltage sources. The family of FACTS devices based on Voltage Source Converters (VSC) consists of STATCOM, SSSC and UPFC. The high cost of these VSC based FACTS controllers is found to be the major hindrance to their widespread use. Novel and cost effective converter based FACTS topologies have been proposed which make use of presumably existing passive components also and thus regarded as hybrid in nature. The different HPFC configurations devised by the investigator have been implemented on a Multi-Machine system and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The comparison of simulation results shows that HPFC is a better option for damping power system oscillations and thus enhancing the stability of the system.
