摘要:
As a practicing physician in clinical nutrition, I was interested in the article by Taylor et al. about neuropalliative care; however, I was disappointed that dysphagia was not discussed. Dysphagia frequently occurs in both acute and chronic neurologic illnesses, and specific guidelines for treatment have been provided by scientific societies. In palliative care, dysphagia is perceived as a clinical and psychological issue for many neurologic patients who link tasting and swallowing to the quality of life. Dysphagia at the end of life is not only related to neurologic illness but also to frailty in elderly patients with or without oncologic diagnoses. © 2022 American Academy of Neurology.
