摘要
Layered magnetostrictive/piezoelectric structures are multifunctional due to their response to mechanical and electromagnetic forces. Investigations at 10 Hz-10 GHz on oxide heterostructures reveal evidence for strong ME interactions. Systems studied include nickel ferrite-lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and yttrium iron garnet (YIG)-lead magnesium niobate/lead titanate (PMN-PT). Our efforts have resulted in: (i) the observation of a giant low frequency ME effect in nickel ferrite-PZT; (ii) observation and theory of ME coupling at electromechanical resonance (EMR) for the composite; and (iii) theory and measurements of microwave ME effects in YIG/PMN-PT, at ferromagnetic resonance for YIG. The composites are potential candidates for smart sensors and signal processing devices, such as electric field tunable filters and phase shifters.
