Present situation of Continuing Engineering Education in Japan

Continuing engineering education (CEE) had been done within individual companies in Japan until some ten years ago, and there was no definite plan of CEE at universities supported by law. Due to the changes in Japanese social habit of "employment until retiring age" and in people's desire to obtain diplomas for promotion, programs of CEE have been established recently and the number of persons who apply to the program is increasing. This paper reports some aspects and statistics of GEE in Japan.
