摘要
A survey analyzes electrostatic and electromagnetic thrusters suitable for moderate-power solar electric propulsion (SEP) and radioisotope electric propulsion (REP) exploration missions. Electrothermal thrusters are not included in this survey as they typically have significantly lower Isp, higher thrust, and different intended propulsive applications. For this survey, thrusters have been selected that operate between 0.1 and 10kW, offer an Isp on the order of 1000 s, and thrust levels on the order of mN. The systems that meet these requirements are ion engines, Hall thrusters, and spinoff designs of the two.
