Evidence that endogenous neurotensin exerts a tonic inhibitory influence on adrenal zona glomerulosa growth and secretory activity in the rat

摘要
To assess the role of endogenous neurotensin (NT) in the regulation of adrenocortical function, adult rats were given [D-Trp(11)]-NT, a specific NT-receptor antagonist (NT-A), subcutaneously, 4 nmol day(-1) for 7 days. NT-A raised the concentration of aldosterone in circulating blood, without affecting ACTH or corticosterone, and induced a marked hypertrophy of the zona glomerulosa. These effects of NT-A were reversed by the simultaneous administration of equimolar doses of NT. These results suggest that endogenous NT exerts a specific tonic inhibitory influence on the zona glomerulosa in rats.
