HERMES at the turn of the millennium

This report highlight results from the HERMES experiment from the last 5 years on the spin structure of the nucleon. The inclusive spin-structure function g(1) (x, Q(2)) is described, followed by measurements of the flavor-separated quark polarizations based on semi-inclusive data. Next, first measurements are presented that indicate that both the gluon polarization and the transversity distribution h(1) (x) are non-zero Finally, the subject of parton-parton correlations is introduced, along with new data related to higher twist effects and skewed parton distributions.
