Composition of aliphatic hydrocarbons in the bottom sediments of the Baltic Sea

摘要
The study of aliphatic hydrocarbons (HCs) in the surface layer of the bottom sediments of the Baltic Sea showed significant variations in HC content (1-326 mug/g), caused by the supply of HC being of different genesis. The sea bottom zoning was performed with respect to the HC composition in the autochthonous, allochthonous, anthropogenic sediments, and those of the natural oil seepage (petrogenic). The background HC contents for each of the genetic groups were determined. The biogenic, mainly allochthonous, components are shown to be dominant in the HC composition (63.2%). Oil contamination was identified in 31.6% of the samples, while the sediments with HCs of petrogenic composition were observed in 5.2% of the cases.
