A low-risk sample of parents (N=68) expecting their first child was followed up from pregnancy until the child was 3. The AAI, the SSP and the PAA were used to assess attachment, and the CARE-Index to assess parental sensitivity. Type A1-2 attachment was predominant. Men and 3-year-old boys were more avoidant than women and 3-year-old girls. The relatively low level of parental sensitivity validated the predominance of insecure attachment. Mothers were more sensitive than fathers. The sensitivity hypothesis was confirmed for mothers and only partly for fathers.
