Osteoporosis in traumatic lower limbs amputees patients

Many conditions can lead to osteoporosis. Patients with traumatic lower limb amputation were diagnosed as having low bone density in both lower limbs but much intensely in the stump. Even patients who are rehabilitated, having full ambulation using their prosthesis, have at the simple radiography and densitometry osteoporosis at the compromised side. In those patients, only immobilization does not explain the low bone density. The goal of this research is to understand the other reasons for the osteoporosis in the amputated side and find the best treatment to prevent fractures.
