A Strategy for Online University Education

Distance education has been around since the nineteenth century Online learning however, is a recent phenomenon which until recently has not be recognized as a viable distance education alternative. Despite this, online learning has become the dominant distance learning platform and is growing more rapidly than traditional face-to-face education. Distance education in the context of this article encompasses: online, Internet, e-learning, blended learning and web-based learning. There are numerous arguments for considering an expansion into online programs. One major reason for going online is that an institution can improve student access. Some institutions have also found that online programs increase the rate of degree completions. In this article the author will discuss alternative models for going online.
