BRINGING DESIGN AND ENGINEERING STUDENTS TOGETHER IN A GAME DEVELOPMENT COURSE

The integration between designers and computer engineers is necessary for many types of projects. However, design and engineering programs often focus on their own approaches to problem solving. Therefore, recently graduated students may find difficulty integrating in teams with professionals from other fields. In this paper we present an experience with an elective course on game design and development offered to design and computer engineering undergraduate students at Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil. We discuss the adjustments made to the course since its first offering in 2010, with a focus on the 2016 version. We observed that the course format and strategies motivated students from different courses to integrate and cooperate with each other. However, the same strategies resulted in a high workload for the lecturer and assistants.
