摘要
Overall sexual function remains unchanged or improved after all types of POP surgery. High rates of baseline dyspareunia are reported in patients with prolapse before surgery. While the prevalence of total dyspareunia is lower after surgery than preoperatively, there is a small but substantial risk of developing de novo dyspareunia after surgery. The rate of de novo dyspareunia after posterior repair can be as high as 19%, whereas de novo dyspareunia after POP surgery in other compartments with and without mesh ranges from 0% to 9%. It is important to counsel patients on changes in sexual function after surgery, as this is an important goal for most women.
