摘要
The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro potential of chloroform extract of Mimusops elengi bark. The IC50 values of chloroform extract in DPPH radical, nitric oxide, ABTS radical and hydroxyl radical were obtained to be 2.43 mu g/ml, 152.76 mu g/ml, 14.12 mu g/ml and 6.31 mu g/ml respectively. However, the IC50 values for the standard ascorbic acid were noted to be 0.66 mu g/ml, 200 mu g/ml, 0.7 mu g/ml and 1 mu g/ml respectively. Measurement of total phenolic content of the chloroform extract of M. elengi was achieved using Folin-Ciocalteau reagent containing 375.9 mg/g of phenolic content, which was found signicantly higher when compared to reference standard gallic acid. The results obtained in this study clearly indicate that M. elengi has a significant potential to use as a natural anti-oxidant agent.
