Effect of boron nitride and zirconium dioxide on mechanical behavior of Al7075 metal matrix hybrid composite

摘要
Aluminium is the most promising materials owing to its strength to weight ratio with good oxidation resistance. The present work is intended on synthesis and study on hardness, wear resistance and tensile strength of hexagonal boron nitride and zirconium dioxide reinforced Al7075 metal matrix hybrid composite. The produced composite showed increased hardness of 92.6 BHN due to the presence of uniformly distributed reinforcements within the matrix. The hybrid combination of boron nitride (3%) with zirconium dioxide (6%) showed higher tensile strength of 187.585 MPa and significant improvement in wear resistance was achieved as compared to unreinforced alloy. Increase in wear resistance is due to existence of hard reinforcements which restricted the loss of material from sample surface.
