Mitral valve surgery over the last 50 years A literature review

Mitral valve surgery underwent a tremendous change over the past 50 years. Beside further insights into reconstructive techniques and the implementation of minimally invasive heart valve surgery and robotic techniques, essential knowledge on the long-term clinical course of very different surgical techniques could be acquired. These factors had an impact on the clinical guidelines. The current manuscript is divided into 10-year intervals in which papers were published, which the author rates as being relevant. These publications are meant to act as a source of further reading. The list does not claim to be complete.
