Studies on Lejeuneaceae .2. Neotropical taxa of Drepanolejeunea (Spr) Schiffn

A classification of neotropical taxa of the subgenus Drepanolejeunea is proposed: some 8 sections (Inchoatae, Bidentes, Crucianellae, Sabalianae, Andinae, Palmifoliae, Muricatae and Auritae) are recognized, based in part on unnamed groups previously recognized by Bischler. Study of living plants has shown that ocellus number and dispersal offer major criteria valuable in defining intrageneric groups. In attempting to sharply circumscribe such groups the author has discussed at length and fully illustrated a number of critical taxa: D. urceolata Schust., D. araucariae Steph. (and the closely allied new species, D. grandistipula Schust. and D. paramicola Schust.), D. anoplantha Steph. (and the closely allied. D. crassiretis Evs., D. integribracteata Bischl., and D. submuricata Schust.), D. navicularis Steph. and D. valiae Jov.-Ast.
