Satellite communications is about to enter a neu!,golden age. Following steady growth over the last 35 years, the field is confidently expected to undergo a period of rapid expansion as the race gets underway to provide the global information infrastructure of the twenty-first century. This article traces the development of satellite communication front, its inception, discusses what if is changing and provides ct glimpse of the future that is unfolding.
