Control of soilborne pathogens of watermelon by solar heating

摘要
In field tests during September and October 1991-1992 solarization of pre-irrigated soil by covering with transparent plastic tarps was examined for effectiveness in controlling soilborne pathogens in watermelon. Progagules of Fusarium solani, Phytophthora drechsleri and Pythium aphanidermatum were greatly reduced or completely eliminated between 0 and 25 cm depth in soil covered for 30-60 days. For the two seasons combined, disease incidence was reduced to 12, 17 and 10% after solarizing periods of 30, 45 and 60 days, respectively compared to 62% for the plants in non-solarized plots.
