A New Approach to the Context of the Great Schism

The European historiography has long debated on the origin of the Great Schism in 1054, but the complexity of the topic requires for new recurrences on its background. This research focuses on the relations between the Byzantine Empire and Roman episcopate in order to emphasize the specific evolution before the middle of the 11(th) century A central objective of this approach is to reveal the differences between Eastern and Western contemporary perspectives regarding this crucial moment in the history of Christianity.
