摘要
This paper describes integrated archaeological, palaeoenvironmental and Geographic Information System based investigations of Holocene landscape developments in the Hull Valley, England, carried out under the auspices of the English Heritage funded Humber Wetlands Survey. It is suggested that the application of such a range of techniques enables a more holistic understanding of Lateglacial and earlier Holocene environments within the lowland wetlands of the Humber Region. Three sites are discussed examining aspects of early human activity in relation to floodplain evolution and vegetational development. The different data presented from each site act synergistically, enabling a broad understanding of local and regional aspects of landscape development whilst also generating hypotheses for future research.
