Developing the electronic medical record in a healthcare enterprise

Many healthcare organizations are attempting or positioning themselves to implement the electronic medical record (EMR) across their enterprise. At the present time, there does not seem to be one vendor that has a complete EMR product for this environment. However, that should not deter a healthcare organization from moving toward this goal. There are two basic approaches to achieving the enterprise wide EMR; by revolution or by evolution. This article outlines how one organization is positioning to implement and evolve the EMR for its enterprise environment.
