Implementation of the 21st century learning approach among technical and vocational education trainee teachers

摘要
The purpose of this study is to identify the implementation of the 21st century learning approach among technical and vocational education trainee teachers as well as the challenge faced by trainee teachers in implementing the learning approach. A survey was conducted on 142 trainee teachers from Faculty of Technical and Vocational (FTV) of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. A descriptive analysis involving percentage values, standard deviation, and mean were used to present the findings. The findings of the study indicate that 96% of the FTV students applied the 21st century learning approaches during their teaching practice period. The study also found that the developing of i-Think thinking map is the most popular 21st century learning activity implemented by respondents, while the exploration of creativity and innovation in students' group work was the most popular 21st century learning strategies being applied in respondents' classroom. However, the study indicated several barriers in the implementation of the 21st century teaching strategies and activities, particularly in regard of time and space constraints.
