摘要
In this paper the use of general living systems theory (GLST) and the quantification of different levels of living systems are discussed. This discussion is based on a proposal for the quantification of different levels of systems in Frandberg (1994). Alternative models are reviewed, since it is vital that we base our understanding on the possibilities for finding a theory and make quantifications in order to understand the conditions necessary for our survival. Bailey (1994) discusses living systems at length, emphasizing that: While some observers such as Miller feel that a maturing systems theory must move past early emphasis on systems philosophy and metatheory to operalization and quantitative formalization of theory this has happened only partially. and further: Miller believes that precise quantification of living systems theory is necessary, not only for integration of disciplines (particularly the integration of social science and physical science) but also for hypothesis testing. This paper will address the issue of quantification and the development of the simulation model ITHINK based on the logic of living systems theory. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
