Transient behavior of the linear adaptive combined space-time receiver for DS-CDMA systems

A new adaptive combined space-time receiver for Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) has been proposed in [1] and [2] to combat co-channel interference and enhance the capacity for cellular CDMA systems. It has been shown that this structure improves the cancellation capability of the CDMA systems compared to the conventional CDMA receiver and the adaptive multiuser structure, [6]. This structure combines the function of adaptive antenna array, adaptive multiuser detector and the RAKE receiver in one single structure. In this paper we study the transient behavior of the linear space-time receiver using the standard LMS algorithm [8]. Results show that using the linear space-time receiver the training period could be reduced significantly and the adaptation time is slightly affected by adding move interferers.
