摘要
The purpose of contingency analysis in power system is for security analysis which is aimed at evaluating the power system and finding the overloads and problems that could impede on the system's performance. When the power system is in abnormal condition, due to contingency condition an entire system or part of the system become part of the congestion, and develop unexpected change on the loads. Contingencies offer tools for analyzing, creating, managing, and reporting list of contingencies and violations. In this paper, the Newton Raphson approach was adopted in performing the load flow, while the system was modeled in the Electrical Transient Analyzer Programme ETAP 12.6 in order to carry out the contingency analysis. The results from the load flow amongst others indicated that, line L4 and transformer T2A has the highest and lowest branch losses of 156.3 kW and 8.0 kW respectively. Further results from the Performance Index PI indicated that Kinkinau and Turuku feeders have the highest PI values of 7.36 respectively while under voltage was experienced by eight (8) feeders from the system's operating report. Finally, an overall system loss of 753.2 kW and 10437.3 KVAR was experienced by the network. The results of the study can therefore serve as a guide for system's operators and for the purpose of expansion planning.
